The European market displayed a distinct downward trend in Week 17. First, supply continued to be fairly ample for the season even though arrivals from Africa continued to decrease. But dollar shipments remained distinctly larger than average and those from the French West Indies reached a peak. Demand started to slow in some countries (in anticipation of a shortened trading Week 18 and the first impact of the increase in the supply of the season's fruits from Spain). This context has resulted in a fall in prices to various degrees on all the markets. The decrease has been marked in countries that reship or receive reshipments (eastern Europe, the United Kingdom and France). Likewise, prices have fallen considerably in Italy where more numerous spot supplies have been available. In contrast, the German market has held up better. Quay stocks of varying size are available .
