Knowledge Dissemination Domains in the Forest Agriculture Interface
Completed Over the years explanations for the limited uptake of research results by poor farmers and other natural resource users in the developing world have been framed in terms of deficiencies of the farmers themselves, of the research process and its outputs, and of ,dissemination pathways,, institutions and approaches. Steps have been taken to address some concerns in these areas through, for example, research funders and managers trying to insist that research is ,demand driven,, greater integation of end-users in various stages of the research process, early identification of dissemination pathways in the development of new, and more participatory and inclusive approaches to extension. Nevertheless, there is still a sense that uptake of research results is often limited: for the FAI (Forest Agriculture Interface), this has been particularly highlighted in relation to the outputs from research on soil management and conservation technologies. To decrease the knowledge gap between technology design and dissemination to assure greater impact of research outputs. The project outputs provide new concepts, frameworks and tools to help assure better decisions about technology development. The eventual realisation of this potential will depend on how these outputs are received by the wider community of researchers and research managers. A state of the art review and synthesis of conceptual issues and practical methods relating to the assessment of the factors affecting the potential use of innovation by end-users.An innovative analytical framework and tested methodology for identifying the nature and characteristics of the ,knowledge dissemination domain, of proposed FAI research outputs. A review and synthesis of conceptual issues and practical methods relating to the assessment of the factors that affect the use of innovations by anticipated end-users.An innovative analytical framework and methodology for identifying the nature and characteristics of the 'knowledge dissemination domain' of proposed FAI research undertakings. Both outputs were fully achieved. The 'methodology' referred to in the second output took the form of an access-based decision support system.
