Crop wild relatives: new information portal
Crop wild relatives anyone?
A new information portal will be launched tomorrow at the COP 9 meeting being held in Bonn. The Crop Wild Relatives (CWR) Global Portal is part of a 5 year project coordinated by Bioversity International, with funding provided by UNEP and GEF. Crop wild relatives are an important resource for mankind. They often contain the genes necessary to improve commercial crops, so they may adapt better to harsher climates, or pests and diseases.
The type of information available through the CWR Global includes country and taxon information, news stories, images and distribution. The approach of the CWR data search is to guide you to the relevant external datasets to find the information you look for. Information comes from such sources as FAO, Bioversity International, GBIF and many more.
