This is one of the main features of the inaugural International Rice Congress, organised by the International Rice Research Institute (IRRI), the Chinese State Development and Planning Commission, the Chinese Academy of Engineering and the Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences and co-sponsored by FAO. The conference's programme includes symposia and workshops, based on three major themes, the first of which is "The application of genomics, bioinformatics, and modern plant breeding approaches in rice improvement".
