The International Conference on Universal Digital Library (ICUDL) is a yearly gathering of decision makers in the arena of digital libraries. The 4th International Conference was organized by Professor Raj Reddy from the Computer School of Carnegie Mellon University. The conference took place from 31 October to 2 November in India in collaboration with the Indian Institute of Information Technology.

World Fish Center

OGF23, one of the largest and most important events held this year, featured an extensive community program for those interested in learning about Grid and distributed computing technologies. This event, held in Barcelona (2-6 June 2008), was organised in various sessions ranging from "Cloud Computing" to sessions dedicated to "Standards and Research Groups".

The first Integrated Capture Information System (ICIS) requirements gathering meeting was held June 10-12, 2008 at the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) headquarters in Rome, Italy. The meeting gathered together representatives from the fisheries and aquaculture community including several regional fishery bodies such as the Northwest Atlantic Fisheries Organization (NAFO) and the International Council for the Exploration of the Sea (ICES) together with WorldFish Center and the Fisheries and Aquaculture Department of the FAO.

AgriFeeds is a service that allows users to search, filter and re-publish news and events from several RSS feeds. It is a one-stop shop on recent news and events related to agriculture (including fisheries, natural resources and related domains). The service has been developed by FAO in partnership with CGIAR, CTA, GFAR, GFIS and IAALD. Currently, 44 information sources are registered in AgriFeeds.

The Ocean Biogeographic Information System (OBIS) recently held its board meeting in FAO headquarters, Rome, Italy.
FAO presented an overview of the D4Science project and the "Integrated capture information system - An opportunity for strengthening Partnerships between Fisheries & Biodiversity communities".
The presentation was followed by an open discussion about possibilities offered by grid technologies and about ways of leveraging synergies through future collaboration between FAO and OBIS.
