Thailand. Despite the strength of Thailand's industrial economy, the rural economy is weak. Agriculture remains the leading source of income for the rural poor but generates only 10 per cent of the national GDP. Major crops include rice, rubber, oil palm and coconut. However, the agricultural sector is in desperate need of reform. Despite soaring prices for key commodities such as rice, sugar and rubber in recent years, Thai farmers remain in debt 03/07/09
