Postdoctoral Fellow (USSP)
Job Summary:
The International Food Policy Research Institute (IFPRI) seeks a Postdoctoral Fellow to work half-time for the Uganda Strategy Support Programme (USSP) at IFPRI, and half-time for the Nutrition Collaborative Research Support Program (NCRSP) managed by Tufts University. The Fellow will hold the title of Postdoctoral Fellow at IFPRI, and has the potential to be appointed as Adjunct Assistant Professor in the Friedman School of Nutrition Science and Policy at Tufts University.
The successful candidate will conduct research and help build capacity among Ugandan collaborators for rigorous quantitative evaluations of agricultural, health and nutrition program interventions. Activities for IFPRI will address the USSP agenda as described here: www.ifpri.org/ussp. Activities for the Nutrition CRSP will evaluate impacts on nutrition and health outcomes for women and children, as described here: www.nutritioncrsp.org. Some activities will be conducted jointly by the two organizations, while other aspects of the position involve distinct activities for the two programs.
The position is a two-year, fixed-term, exempt, renewable appointment, based at the IFPRI country office in Kampala, Uganda. The final grade level will be determined by demonstrated experience and track record of publications. Please note that Postdoctoral Fellow appointments at IFPRI have a maximum term of three (3) years, inclusive of any approved appointment extensions.
Essential Duties:
Specific responsibilities include:
· Rigorous design and implementation of quantitative evaluations for nutrition, agriculture and health interventions, including particularly integrated programs to improve maternal and child nutrition and health outcomes;
· Effective support and capacity-building on rigorous program evaluation methods among Ugandan collaborators, including peer-review, informal advising, and mentorship / learning-by-doing training;
· Successful dissemination of research results in scholarly journals, policy briefs and verbal presentations in local and international venues;
· Active participation in meetings, workshops and conferences around nutrition, health and agriculture in Uganda and elsewhere, such as those organized by UGAN, FANTA 2, NPA, UN agencies and other CSO coalitions, and
· Leadership and management of meetings, workshops and conferences convened by IFPRI and the Nutrition CRSP in Uganda.
