According to the Cattlesite, a new report in the medical journal The Lancet has called for a 30 per cent reduction in livestock production to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and meet the UK emission targets for 2030.
According to the Farmers Guardian, the UK Government has been slammed by critics over the report: “The controversy has been widely reported in the national media, with some commentators ridiculing the suggestion that livestock numbers should be drastically cut.”
The BBC helpfully explains how the UK government “came within a whisker of advocating bovine genocide” until the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs stepped in and “gently pointed out that perhaps the ‘kill-a-cow, save-the-world’ policy might have a few flaws.”
