Senior Research Assistant/Research Analyst

Job Summary:

The International Food Policy Research Institute (IFPRI) seeks a qualified candidate to serve as a Sr. Research Assistant (SRA) or Research Analyst (RA) for a one year, fixed-term, renewable appointment for its Development Strategy and Governance (DSG) Division. This position is based at IFPRI headquarters located in Washington, D.C. Final grade level will be determined by number of years of relevant work experience.

Essential Duties:

- The SRA/RA will assist the Ghana Strategy Support Program in conducting a national representative large scale household survey in Ghana in early 2010. The support will include liaison with Statistics, research, and Information Division (SRID) of the ministry of agriculture and the Ghana Statistic Service (GSS) relating to all aspects of survey implementation including post-survey activities such as data cleaning, preparation of report and data release.

- The SRA/RA will assist on survey documentation and research outputs relating effectiveness of various capacity building measures that will be piloted through the survey.

- The SRA/RA will be involved in conducting literature review and synthesis analysis related to Ghana agricultural and rural development.

- The SRA/RA will be involved in the preparation of IFPRI discussion papers, project research reports, donors' reports, policy briefs, briefing notes for dissemination, and other types of publication preparation.

- The SRA/RA will perform some administrative activities related to GSSP and other IFPRI research programs or projects.

Required Skills:

- MS or ABD in Economics, Agricultural economics, Natural resource economics, Environmental economics or related fields.

- Experience of working on growth and poverty reduction, rural development, natural resource management related research and policy issues.

- More than two years' experience of managing/coordinating rural household surveys in Sub-Saharan African countries.

- Experience of conducting household survey and related analysis independently.

- Experience of conducing quantitative analysis on rural household livelihood, agricultural development and rural poverty reduction using micro level (including household) data and writing research reports based on such analysis.
