Technical Officer (Animal Health)
Under the overall supervision of the Director, Joint FAO/IAEA Division and the general supervision and guidance of the Head of the Animal Production and Health Section, the incumbent will:
Review, plan and guide developments in nuclear, nuclear associated and nuclear related technologies, including serological and molecular technologies, for control of transboundary animal diseases and those that affect humans;
Develop and build animal disease control capacities in Member States by facilitating and supporting the successful transfer of such technologies, undertaking field missions to assist in planning and implementation of projects;
Plan, implement and manage the technical aspects of Coordinated Research Programmes (CRPs) and Technical Co-operation Programmes (TCPs) dealing with early and rapid diagnostic technologies (i.e. immunoassay and molecular techniques);
Plan, organize and conduct meetings, training courses and regional seminars;
Respond to Member States’ needs for the development, evaluation and validation of diagnostic technologies to enhance the control of diseases providing expertise to national veterinary diagnostic laboratories in establishing quality control and quality assurance scheme;
Edit and evaluate project-related reports and manuscripts prepared by counterparts and experts;
Develop and maintain contacts with other FAO Divisions, in particular the Animal Production and Health Division (AGA), and other partners such as the World Organization for Animal Health (OIE) and the World Health Organization (WHO); as well as with donors to contribute to resource mobilization;
Participate in the preparation and review of biennial FAO/IAEA programmes, works plans, budgets, bi-annual newsletters and periodic updating of the Section's website;
Perform other related duties as required.
