On 21-22 February 2007, a regional workshop was held in Tbilisi, Georgia, on "Assessing and designing strategies to strengthen national plant breeding and biotechnology capacity in the Caucasus", organised by FAO in collaboration with the International Maize and Wheat Improvement Center (CIMMYT) and the International Center for Agricultural Research in the Dry Areas (ICARDA).
