Agricultural Officer (Sustainable Intensification and Ecosystem Services)

Under the overall supervision of the Director and the direct supervision of the team leader of sustainable crop production intensification, the incumbent will contribute to FAO’s Strategic Objective A on sustainable crop production intensification focusing on provision of technical support to national programmes with principal emphasis on production systems and related issues, such as ecosystem services and biodiversity. In particular, will:
Contribute to the management of biodiversity and ecosystem services through an ecosystem approach;
Participate in the preparation of technical documents and studies related to sustainable crop production intensification and the conservation and sustainable use of agricultural biodiversity (including crop and crop-associated biodiversity especially within the context of broader ecosystem resilience issues);
Contribute to the provision of technical advice and preparation of documentation related to agricultural biodiversity at national and international levels; participate in the development of National Agricultural Biodiversity Programmes (NABP);
Participate in the design and formulation of projects on sustainable crop production intensification and agricultural biodiversity;
Contribute to and provide technical backstopping in the development, implementation, coordination and monitoring of sustainable crop production intensification and agricultural biodiversity-related projects including GEF funded projects;
Prepare documents requested for intergovernmental meetings (such as the Commission on Genetic Resources for Food and Agriculture (CGRFA), the IT-PGRFA, the Commission on Sustainable Development, the Convention on Biological Diversity).
Prepare and participate in technical meetings and training sessions.
Perform other related duties as required.
