Under the overall managerial and administrative leadership of the ADG/Regional Representative for Africa and the technical guidance of the Director, TCA, to advise the Regional Representative on matters related to agricultural policy to address regional issues, lend support to regional organizations and bodies, as well as member countries with particular attention to the analysis, formulation and implementation of agricultural and rural development policies. In particular, to:
advise the Regional Representative on policy matters related to addressing regional issues affecting sustainable agricultural development, food security, and rural development; and provide policy support to Regional Economic Integration Organizations in the region as well as to member countries whenever needed;
monitor key developments in the region and maintain updated information on them, paying particular attention to major emerging trends and challenges affecting food security and agricultural development in the region;
lead, participate in or contribute to missions for (a) identification, formulation, appraisal and backstopping of regional programmes and projects in areas of FAO’s mandate; and (b) reviewing and developing regional technical cooperation programmes in line with agricultural development priorities and frameworks of the region and its member countries;
provide technical support to the Regional Representative and Subregional Offices in the formulation/revision of the Regional and Subregional Medium-Term Priority Frameworks (NMTPFs) and as relevant the review and clearance of the National Medium Term Priority Frameworks (NMTPFs);
provide support in the preparation of and follow up to the FAO Regional Conference and other relevant regional fora;
provide technical support to the Regional Representative in relation to his/her role in the United Nations Regional Directors Team;
contribute to the work of the Policy Assistance and Resources Mobilization Division by covering the regional dimension of its programme ;
organize, supervise and participate in capacity building activities in the region, as required;
perform other related duties as required
