Forestry Officer (Global Forest Resources Assessment)
Under the general supervision of the Director and the technical guidance of the Senior Officer (Global Forest Resources Assessment) will coordinate the country-reporting process for the Global Forest Resources Assessment (FRA) Programme. In particular, will:
analyse information requirements from forest resouces assessment with respect to needs expressed by international processes, policy requirements, outlook studies, national forest programmes and multi-sectoral studies; make recommendations on FRA objectives in response to the demands at national, regional and global levels;
in close collaboration with other units at FAO and international forest-related processes, develop reporting format and methodology for the FRA, including composition of tables, specification of variables and elaboration of questionnaires;
maintain and enhance the network of national correspondents and ensure their continued involvement in the programme;
coordinate the review of draft country reports;
analyse data for the production of updated standardised forest resources information at national, eco-regional and international levels;
evaluate and further develop web-based tools to facilitate the country reporting process and the dissemination of information;
prepare information and disseminate periodic and ad hoc reports within the framework of the FRA Programme;
prepare background material for and participate in the meetings of the FAO Advisory Group on Global Forest Resources Assessments;
organise and participate in expert consultations, technical meetings and workshops at national, regional and global levels;
perform other related duties as required.
