Under the general supervision of the Director, working in close collaboration with the Senior Officer, Forest Monitoring, Assessment and Reporting Service, and with wide latitude for personal initiative, the incumbent will manage the Global Forest Resources Assessement (FRA) Programme. In particular, will:
ensure the further development of the FRA in collaboration with national, regional and international organizations, partners and donors;
coordinate and supervise the collection, processing and analysis of information on forest resources, their management and uses at national, regional and global levels based on country reports, special studies and remote sensing surveys;
coordinate the production of publications on global forest resources and ensure that related information products are timely and accurate;
coordinate the network of National Correspondents to the FRA Programme;
supervise the further development of the use of remote sensing within the FRA and of electronic archiving, processing and publishing of information collected by the Programme;
serve as focal point for collaboration with other units in FAO and with international organizations and processes concerned with subject matters related to the Programme;
coordinate the work and meetings of the FAO Advisory Group on FRA;
ensure overall coordination of activities, providing guidance and day-to-day supervision of staff;
manage the extra-budgetary funds provided for the Programme and help in fund raising activities;
perform other related duties as required.
