Knowledge and Information Management Officer (Serials)
Under the overall guidance of the Chief Librarian, David Lubin Memorial Library, and working in collaboration with the Knowledge and Information Management Officer (Collections), will plan, organize and supervise all operations relating to the acquisition and management of the library’s serials and electronic resources. In particular, will:
acquire electronic and print serial resources selected for the library and ensure a smooth acquisitions workflow and audit trail;
ensure quality and consistency of metadata, including indexing and classification according to established library rules and international standards; assure effective linking and ongoing access solutions for the library’s serials and electronic resources;
liaise with publishers, vendors, aggregators and consortium partners to establish and maintain access to print and electronic resources; review electronic resource agreements and usage licences; resolve related technical issues;
systematically monitor collection integrity, ensure prompt action and follow up on claims and gaps, and periodically review holdings of closed items for collection relevance or withdrawal;
monitor the financial status of library orders for serials and electronic resources, and produce periodic reports; assist in troubleshooting and resolving problems related to orders, payments, and renewals;
review periodically, in collaboration with staff from the library, branch libraries and technical divisions, the relevance, coverage and cost efficiency of electronic and print serial resources; monitor resource usage statistics on a regular basis;
review new incoming materials for selection, assist in identifying electronic and print resources of interest to FAO, and coordinate product trials for evaluation;
liaise with IT staff and FAO clients to troubleshoot and resolve access problems;
participate in teams, projects and training programmes geared to ensure maximum benefit from the library’s store of knowledge assets to HQs and field staff;
ensure appropriate functioning of the serials management system and contribute to the planning and implementation of new and improved technologies for enhanced use and governance of the library’s serials and electronic resources;
perform other related duties as required.
