Under the overall managerial and administrative
supervision of the Assistant Director-General/Regional
Representative for the Near East and the technical guidance of
the Director, Statistics Division, the incumbent will be
responsible for the development and dissemination of agricultural
statistics in the Region. Specifically to: •
advise on the development and implementation of national
programmes for food and agricultural statistics and advise on the
organization of the structures necessary to support these
programmes; • identify, formulate and
technically backstop statistical field projects and participate
in the selection, briefing and guidance of FAO field experts and
the review of technical reports; • advise on
the organization and conduct of agricultural censuses and surveys
and of household surveys related to food and agriculture,
including the use of appropriate methodologies and the training
of national personnel as well as the dissemination of results;
• organize, coordinate and participate in
meetings, seminars and training courses on food and agricultural
statistics; • review regularly FAOSTAT country
data identifying missing official data and metadata and follow up
on statistical questionnaires to improve response rates and the
quality of information; • improve the access of
users to and the dissemination of FAO’s
database, including preparation of statistical indicators for the
region for publication; • promote cooperation
and coordination between countries and facilitate the exchange of
information and methodological experiences; •
cooperate and develop partnerships with other agencies and
regional organizations to promote effective and efficient food
and agricultural statistics systems; • provide
other units in the Regional Office and Headquarters with relevant
inputs for region-wide planning and programming exercises and
other report requirements, including gender analysis;
• perform other related duties as
required.
