Economist (Trade)

Under the overall supervision of the ADG/Regional
Representative for Africa, RAF, and the technical guidance of the
Director, Trade and Markets Division, EST, to be responsible for
the planning and delivery of trade policy support to Member
Countries and subregional economic integration organizations in
the region. Specifically to: •plan and
undertake analyses on agricultural trade policy issues for the
region, including assessments of impacts of existing and proposed
trade agreements on international trade in agricultural
commodities and their impact on food security and the development
concerns of countries in the region; •provide
technical support to Member countries on agricultural trade
policy issues , particularly in relation to the multilateral and
regional trading systems and trade negotiations at the
multilateral, regional and bilateral levels;
•design and implement commodity and trade
policy projects in the region; •plan, organize
and participate in commodity and trade policy activities in the
region; •participate in the formulation of
early warning and food crisis related activities being undertaken
in the region especially in relation to trade dimension;
•participate and organize regional technical
meetings ,workshops and conferences on commodities and trade
policy issues, including preparation of background documents and
reporting related results; •maintain liaison
with and assist in the delivery of advisory technical services to
Member governments and other national and
•regional institutions in the region on
trade-related matters, projects and programmes;
•provide technical advice to the Regional
Representative on trade and commodities aspects of the regional
programme of work of FAO and assume full involvement in its
implementation; •perform other related duties
as required.
