The FAO Investment Centre Division (TCI) promotes investment in agriculture, rural development and food security (ARDFS) in developing countries and countries in transition, assisting governments, international financing institutions and other development partners to achieve sustainable growth, poverty alleviation and food security
Under the overall guidance of the Director, TCI, and the direct supervision of the Chief, TCIN, and as a member of multidisciplinary teams, the incumbent will be responsible for the financial and economic aspects of agricultural and rural development investment operations. In particular, the incumbent will:
• assist in identification, preparation, supervision and post-evaluation of ARDFS investment projects and programmes;
• establish the feasibility of investment proposals through the analysis of market prospects, prices, costs and risks, and
carrying out financial and economic analyses;
• interact at working level with government officials, development partners and beneficiaries to facilitate exchange of critical
information and validate the findings and recommendations regarding investment proposals;
• provide backstopping in financial and economic analysis to national staff of Ministries and parastatal organizations
promoting agriculture, livestock, forestry, and sustainable natural resources management; participate in training sessions
on financial and economic analysis designed for such groups;
• participate in the review of investment implications of agricultural and rural development policies and national plans and
programmes for poverty alleviation and food security;
• provide backstopping in the implementation of technical cooperation projects under the FAO/EBRD cooperative
programme;
• participate in the analysis of agricultural subsectors in the context of the FAO/EBRD cooperative programme;
• contribute to financial and economic analyses within the context of investment planning by national governments and
international financial institutions in order to advise on best options;
• perform other related duties as required.
